My curly hair refuses to listen to me: The curls aren't even, they're frizzy, and they're not all properly formed
Our take
Recently watched a 3A/3B curly haired girl do her routine. When she applied her curl cream and scrunched, she got a good # of curls of fairly even size, and scrunching did NOT add any frizz
For me, however, when I apply my leave-in + gel and scrunch, I get
a) Various different sized curls: some very tiny, some very large, some very tiny ones connected to very large ones. It looks a bit odd
b) When I scrunch, I can literally SEE the frizz even when my hair is wet. This gets worse as it dries
Current Routine: Wash my hair. Around 5-7 minutes later, apply Function of Beauty leave in conditioner (throughout my hair except roots and start scrunching). Then add some Not Your Mother's curly hair gel and continue to scrunch. Finger coil the front pieces

- Curly hair is a PAIN as much as it is BEAUTIFULI recently started doing the full curly routine (leave-in, gel, scrunching) and while it looks BEAUTIFUL (I have 3B curls), I cannot stand how delicate the needs of curly hair are. I miss being able to just pull my hair into a normal ponytail, sleep on any side/direction I want, tuck hair behind my ear when it falls in my face, etc. For this reason, I want to wear it wavy - does anyone have any heatless methods to make the curls less "curls" and more "s-shaped waves" submitted by /u/Odd-Employee5424 [link] [comments]
- Absolute basics for somebody who regularly heat styles and would like to start embracing curls?I have naturally wavy/curly hair. For the past 2-3 years, I’ve been blowing it out regularly and leaving it straight, so I likely have some heat damage. My natural hair type is 2C and fine. Now that summer is approaching, I’d really like to start embracing my natural curls, but don’t know how to anymore. I’ve tried brush styling and sectioning, and it’ll look really good at first, but then the curls will fall and it’ll feel all producty and limp. My current curl routine. I’ve tried this routine about 3 times, and can’t really get it to work. It looks good right after styling, but then the next day it’ll get all crunchy and weird. I don’t know how to describe it, the curls just fall out and then my hair feels very producty. I shampoo and condition with Redken all soft. Then, I section my hair into 3. In each section, I apply some of the Lush curl cream and a curl foam and brush style. When I’ve brush styled all 3 sections, I flip my hair upside down and scrunch in gel and heat protectant and diffuse. To sleep with my hair, I use 3 small clips and flip all my hair upside down. I clip my hair into a pineapple (I don’t like using a hair tie because it stretches out my curls), and then I cover my hair with a bonnet and also sleep on a silk pillowcase. submitted by /u/withmell [link] [comments]
- Curly Enough for a Curly Cut?I am at the beginning of my journey to embrace my natural hair. I’m still very much in the experimental stage as far as figuring out what products work for and have been unable to make myself stop brushing my hair after the shower, but what I’d really like to do is get a curly cut so that I can really see what I’m working with. My hair is thin/fine, frizzes easily, and fairly long. The salons near me say you have to have a minimum of 2B curls for a curly cut. Do I have that? I’ve never been able to tell. submitted by /u/Routine-Expression58 [link] [comments]
