Need advice ASAP! “Breaking up” with hair stylist

Our take

Navigating a breakup with your hairstylist can feel daunting, especially when friendship is involved. You’ve been seeking that perfect melted balayage, but despite years of great service, your recent experience left you wanting more. Now, with a new stylist who delivered exactly what you envisioned, you're faced with the tricky task of addressing your previous stylist about exchanging extensions. Approach the conversation with kindness and honesty, expressing your appreciation for her past work while gently explaining your decision to pursue a fresh look.

Hi!. I’m a brunette and I was looking for a very melted balayage to give my hair some dimension I feel it was lacking. I had in the past and during this most recent appointment asked for that lightening of my hair, and she did not do it my liking, she’s done a great job for 3 years doing darker gloss and toning but when it comes to adding highlights etc. I’ve been disappointed. So I was referred a dimensional brunette “expert” and I saw her and she did exactly what I wanted, so I will be seeing her going forward. The awkward thing is that I ordered extensions through this previous stylist and now I need to exchange those extensions for a new color, so I do have to confront the old stylist about my hair color changing that was done by a different stylist in order to get her to return and exchange the extensions she ordered me. How do I best handle this?

The previous stylist of mine has become a good friend and she is so kind, I really don’t want to hurt her feelings.
