Advice on hair styling and routine?
Our take

| I’m 34 and have been insecure about my hair since mid-20s because I used to have more of it (more or thicker I don’t know). I have naturally wavy hair and it looks nice on shampoo day, but as from the next day the volume disappears, curls flatten and I have no volume. It’s hard for me to be objective so I would like outside opinions to know if I’m being too obsessive about the way my hair looks and if there are ways it could be improved: - does my hair look “problematic” to you in some way? Ie: Too thin, dry - what cut would you recommend? I think a bob cut looks best but I’m trying to let it grow, would love long hair again. - any recommendations on styling/routine are very welcome My current routine: - shampoo twice a week using Furterer Curbicia (2 rounds and leave in 3 min during 2nd round) - hair mask once a week using Furterer “sublime karité hydrating mask” - I always air dry and crunch my hair with Furterer “sublime curl” styling cream FYI : - I had a hair diagnosis done in a hair institute: said my hair is oily at the roots and dry on the lengths, and a bit fine. - I’ve been taking iron and hair/nail supplements for the last 3 years, I don’t know if my ferritine levels could be part of the problem (currently 47ng/ml) Feel free to ask any questions or redirect me to a better subreddit. Thanks! 🫶🏻 [link] [comments] |

- What hair care products would you choose?Hey all! I have natural dark blonde hair (medium to long length), and lately it’s been feeling quite dry. I think it’s partly from using John Frieda Go Blonder hairspray, and also because the water where I live is high in calcium (hard water). My main goal is to restore moisture and shine. Right now I’m using Ouai shampoo for clarifying one time per 1-2 weeks, but I’m looking to update my everyday hair routine. I’d love recommendations for: - A good shampoo + conditioner (hydrating but not too heavy) - A leave-in product (or two) - A reliable heat protectant (Maybe leave-in product and heat protectant can be 2 in 1) I thought of some products already, so maybe some of you had experience with them. But if you’ve used anything that worked well for similar hair, I’d really appreciate your suggestions! Thanks so much 😊 submitted by /u/Acceptable-Newt2703 [link] [comments]
- Absolute basics for somebody who regularly heat styles and would like to start embracing curls?I have naturally wavy/curly hair. For the past 2-3 years, I’ve been blowing it out regularly and leaving it straight, so I likely have some heat damage. My natural hair type is 2C and fine. Now that summer is approaching, I’d really like to start embracing my natural curls, but don’t know how to anymore. I’ve tried brush styling and sectioning, and it’ll look really good at first, but then the curls will fall and it’ll feel all producty and limp. My current curl routine. I’ve tried this routine about 3 times, and can’t really get it to work. It looks good right after styling, but then the next day it’ll get all crunchy and weird. I don’t know how to describe it, the curls just fall out and then my hair feels very producty. I shampoo and condition with Redken all soft. Then, I section my hair into 3. In each section, I apply some of the Lush curl cream and a curl foam and brush style. When I’ve brush styled all 3 sections, I flip my hair upside down and scrunch in gel and heat protectant and diffuse. To sleep with my hair, I use 3 small clips and flip all my hair upside down. I clip my hair into a pineapple (I don’t like using a hair tie because it stretches out my curls), and then I cover my hair with a bonnet and also sleep on a silk pillowcase. submitted by /u/withmell [link] [comments]

- Dry, dull hair when straightened — is a salon blowout worth it? (first time)Hi everyone, I have long, thick 2C-ish wavy/curly hair. I like my natural curls as they look healthier but they get frizzy and annoying after a couple days, so I’ve been trying to switch things up and get a smoother, salon-style blowout look. I also feel like it'd be a game-changer. My issue is my hair always ends up looking dry, dull, and puffy, especially when I straighten it. I’ve tried heat protectant, oil, small sections, chase method, etc. and it still doesn’t come out shiny or smooth/sleek like I want it to. I lowkey gave up doing it myself... not to mention the amount of time it takes. I’m thinking of going to a salon for the first time for a blowout or something related but I'm not even sure (no dye, no extensions, nothing permanent) and maybe a trim since my ends feel dry. I had a few questions: Is a salon blowout actually worth it for this kind of hair? Will it realistically give that smooth, shiny “healthy blowout” look, or is that unrealistic? Does it actually improve how your hair looks/feels over time or is it just styling? Should I slowly start learning to use a round brush myself instead of relying on salons right away? How often do people usually go to the salon for blowouts like this? I’m even considering going monthly if it helps, but I’m not sure if that’s normal or worth it. Would really appreciate honest advice, especially from people with similar hair types. submitted by /u/MedicalSky26 [link] [comments]
