moisturizer dependance / skin dryness

Our take

Moisturizer dependence can be a frustrating cycle, especially for those with sensitive skin. A user recently shared their experience with Albolene, which initially provided hydration but led to tightness and crinkly skin around the eyes the next day. Despite trying periods without moisturizer, the dryness and fine lines returned upon reapplication of a simple moisturizer like Cicalfate. This raises a critical question: Can over-reliance on moisturizers actually contribute to skin dryness? If you’ve faced similar issues, your insights could be invaluable.

Hi, I have normal, healthy skin and my routine is very simple because most skincare irritates me. I recently started using Albolene, which has similar ingredients to Vaseline. Initially this product hydrates very well, but after using it, the next day my skin is very tight / dry, and there is crinkly skin around my eyes, which I’ve never had before.

There’s some noticeable downward fine lines at the outward corner of my eyes, and when I smile my under eye skin crinkles a lot, almost like wrinkles (not true wrinkles bc i’m in my 20s, i know they are caused by dehydration)

After this happened, I went 4-5 days without any moisturizer or makeup, and my skin got much better. yesterday my skin was feeling a little dry so i tried using a simple moisturizer last night (cicalfate) and the dryness and lines have returned.

i think i caused my skin to be super dependent on the moisturizer hydration, thus leading to very dry skin after some time.

has anyone experienced this? 😭 i typically avoid moisturizers because they all cause my skin to get irritated (except cicalfate).
