Nails for beginners
Our take
I am a nail biter who has never gotten into having my nails done. I always see women with beautiful nails and have nail envy and curiousity/confusion on how everyone seems to have such nice nails all the time. I’ve tried press ons, but they never last for me because my nails are too short to begin with.
I don’t know the first thing about where to start. My nails are still very short (trying to grow them out and cover them with nicer fake nails)
I have paid for a nail tech to do them before and honestly can’t afford it as a student.
What is everyone doing in terms of easy DIY nails?
Or are most women going to the nail salons?
Do you do gel x at home, acrylic , powder etc I don’t know the difference between all the different kinds.
I bought items for gel x nails but am scared of getting contact dermatitis as an amateur.
Please help a girl out.
Thank you.

- Recommendations for DIY gel nails, easy application for a total beginner?I'm not someone who gets nails done. I used to get acrylics but would like something more natural looking. I would probably want extensions of my natural length and perhaps some cute designs too. Are those sticker ones that you cure a good way to go? How do you refill them? Or remove? Bonus points if it's Aussie brand. Thanks. submitted by /u/Defiant-Elk849 [link] [comments]
- how do start doing basic, clean manicure at home?i’ve never done anything to my nails besides using polish, but it doesn’t last long on my nails because of how fragile they are. what would i need to use as a beginner to get nails like that? i want something clean and basic for every day look, including the nail care (not sure what products to use to get these results) submitted by /u/notsoflowerys [link] [comments]
- What should I do?I’ve been a dedicated user of gel-x and acrylic nails for years. Over the past few years, I’ve been determined to grow my nails long. Finally, I achieved that goal, but unfortunately, two of the tips of my nails broke. Now those are short again. I recently switched to builder gel a few months ago and am currently wearing it. I’m at a loss for how to fix this at a salon. Should I just get all my nails cut short again and start over? Should I get gel-x again? I’m devastated. My nails look terrible, and I’m a bit ashamed to go to a salon with their current state. submitted by /u/monroefanx [link] [comments]
- Six months of home gel nails... What I wish I knew before buying a lamp.I started doing my own gel nails at home six months ago. Salon visits were eating sixty dollars a month and I got tired of it. The first lamp I bought was twelve dollars with four tiny LEDs. My polish stayed tacky no matter how long I cured it. I watched twenty tutorials and changed my application. Still sticky. The lamp was just weak. What matters: LED and UV combined because some gels cure under LED and some need UV. Forty eight watts is the minimum. You need timer presets for thirty, sixty, and ninety seconds. And the lamp needs to fit your whole hand comfortably. Thin coats are everything. Thick coats do not cure properly inside and they peel in two days. Wipe the inhibition layer with alcohol after curing or everything stays sticky. It is boring. Doing your own nails is not relaxing spa time. It is a chore. I put on a podcast and zone out. I have also burned myself twice by touching the lamp while reaching for my phone.
