Recommendations for DIY gel nails, easy application for a total beginner?
Our take
Looking to elevate your nail game without the salon visit? DIY gel nails are a fabulous option for beginners seeking a natural look with a playful twist. For extensions that complement your natural length, consider using gel stickers that cure under UV light—they're user-friendly and perfect for adding cute designs. In this guide, we'll explore easy application techniques, tips for refilling your gel nails, and safe removal methods. Plus, we’ll highlight some fantastic Aussie brands to help you get started on your nail journey.
I'm not someone who gets nails done. I used to get acrylics but would like something more natural looking. I would probably want extensions of my natural length and perhaps some cute designs too. Are those sticker ones that you cure a good way to go? How do you refill them? Or remove?
Bonus points if it's Aussie brand. Thanks.

- Nails for beginnersI am a nail biter who has never gotten into having my nails done. I always see women with beautiful nails and have nail envy and curiousity/confusion on how everyone seems to have such nice nails all the time. I’ve tried press ons, but they never last for me because my nails are too short to begin with. I don’t know the first thing about where to start. My nails are still very short (trying to grow them out and cover them with nicer fake nails) I have paid for a nail tech to do them before and honestly can’t afford it as a student. What is everyone doing in terms of easy DIY nails? Or are most women going to the nail salons? Do you do gel x at home, acrylic , powder etc I don’t know the difference between all the different kinds. I bought items for gel x nails but am scared of getting contact dermatitis as an amateur. Please help a girl out. Thank you. submitted by /u/ladybugbelle4 [link] [comments]
- What should I get at the nail salon if I’m not a regular?I haven’t gotten my nails done in years, but I would like to get them done for vacation. I know there’s so many different things now gel, gelx, dip, acrylic, etc. and I don’t know what to get. I feel like regular nail polish comes off too quick but I also want something I won’t have to go back to the salon to get taken off. I also just want it on my natural nail, no tips. submitted by /u/Present-Message8740 [link] [comments]
- New to DIY nails - help?Title. Hi all, I am hoping to learn the proper steps/best practice to apply/remove builder and hard gels for nails. My spouse gets their nails done at a salon, and I'd like to start doing them at home to both save on money and time. I saw a lot of posts and videos but there's literally so many, I get a little overwhelmed. What I know so far, I think (on bare nails): Cuticle pushing. Sanding/efile. Dehydrator stuff? / Wipe Rubber base coat. Apply plastic fake nail? Cure for a few seconds with a UV light. Cut/file to size and shape and wipe off. Apply gel from cuticle to tip. Cure for 1 min. - This is where I get lost fort like, colors and stuff - Add optional jewels and things and then cure again? I don't know if this will go beyond doing nails at home, but I'd like to be fairly good at it. Any advice or pointing to another thread is appreciated. - What kind of nail?I really love a little length to my nails, but my natural nails are horrendously weak and bend in painful ways or just break no matter what I do. I need a solution that will hold up during the day to day of being a mum. Would acrylics/builder gel/whatever it's officially called be a good idea? Please give me your recommendations or ideas! submitted by /u/bongofrog99 [link] [comments]
