what's your go-to base makeup layering routine?
Our take
Hey there, fabulous! Let’s dive into the glamorous world of base makeup layering to achieve that flawless finish without the fear of looking cakey. If you're exploring the ‘concealer first and then skin tint’ method, you're not alone! Many swear by it, but the order can really impact coverage. Typically, starting with primer sets the stage, followed by foundation or skin tint, concealer, cream blush, and a light dusting of setting powder.
hello!! im trying to figure out a good base makeup layering routine and am open to trying new methods! what order do you usually use (primer, skin tint or foundation, concealer, cream blush, setting powder, etc.)?
specifically, i've been trying a 'concealer first and then skin tint' method, but im curious which order to put first to cover blemishes/dark spots the best? I’ve heard both ways and I’m confused about what actually works best without lifting product or looking cakey!
thank you!!

- Makeup always looks a little "cakey"Hi everyone! I've been on the hunt to find products that don't make my face look cakey after a couple of hours of wear. The routine I've found that has made me look the least cakey is: - Moisturizer: La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer - Sunscreen: Beauty of Joseon - Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics - Primer: NYX Face Glue - Foundation: LAWLESS Forget The Filler Skin-Plumping Line-Smoothing Foundation - Powder: Innisfree Translucent Mineral Powder - Setting Spray: Morphe Continuous Setting Mist It looks good for the most part and it's the most transfer-proof I've tried but it still isn't perfect. What can I do to change that? Does anyone's makeup ever truly look seamless? lol I believe these are all water-based products. I've also started incorporating the Ordinary 5% lactic acid once a week to hopefully exfoliate a little but is there anything else I can do? (My skincare routine is usually just Youth To The People cleanser and moisturizer) submitted by /u/SliceSuspicious8182 [link] [comments]
- Concealer without foundationYears ago, I was wearing a full face of makeup. For foundation, I used the extremely high coverage Estee Lauder doublewear foundation. But since a couple years I quit wearing as much makeup. On a daily basis, my routine consists of mascara, powder, bronzer, blush and concealer which I blend from my undereyes outward. I don't like using foundation, as it always looks a bit cakey/patchy, or I 'd have to cake it on. I'm using the NYX bare with me serum concealer. I love it, however using concealer without foundation looks a bit patchy. Especially on my cheeks. I used to blend the concealer using a Real Techniques sponge, but recently switched to the real techniques airblend sponge, hoping that would be better. But it doesnt. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to use the concealer, preferably without foundation, or a different concealer that I can use without foundation? If not, what are some good, lightweight foundations that are easy to blend and looks natural? My skin is dryer in the mornings but gets very oily throughout the day, resulting in buildup of concealer (and foundation) Thanks in advance!! submitted by /u/cottoneyedgoat [link] [comments]
