Any ideas (or help) for my hair?
Our take

In the world of beauty, hair can often feel like a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can be a canvas of creativity and expression; on the other, it can present a series of frustrations that make us question our relationship with it. The Reddit post titled "Any ideas (or help) for my hair?" exemplifies this struggle, capturing the essence of many individuals navigating their hair's complexities. The author’s journey from thick, curly locks in childhood to the current state of flat and lifeless hair is a relatable narrative that resonates with countless others. As they seek solutions beyond the standard perm, it opens up a broader conversation about the challenges of maintaining hair health and style amidst evolving trends and personal preferences.
The author's predicament sheds light on a common dilemma faced by many: the desire to reclaim a sense of identity through hair while battling the realities of hair texture and maintenance. Their mention of the "Karen cut" serves as a humorous yet poignant reminder of how styles can become symbols of frustration rather than empowerment. This situation is not unique; many have experienced the pain of a haircut gone wrong or the relentless battle against heavy hair that refuses to hold a style. In this context, the post aligns with the growing discourse around self-acceptance and the realization that beauty is not merely about adhering to societal standards but embracing one’s unique attributes. This theme resonates with other discussions in our publication, such as Cream eyeshadows I can apply with my fingers?, where convenience meets beauty, underscoring the desire for effortless glamour.
Moreover, the author’s investment of 45 minutes into styling illustrates the modern-day dilemma of balancing self-care with practicality. As we dive deeper into the beauty realm, we see a shift where quick fixes become increasingly sought after, as evidenced by articles like My Blissy silk bonnet is super dull. Does it still provide benefits?. The quest for low-maintenance yet chic hairstyles is becoming paramount, especially as individuals juggle demanding schedules and self-care routines. The struggle for the author to maintain their curls while managing overwhelming thickness reflects a wider trend of seeking attainable beauty solutions that do not compromise on style or health.
In addressing the question of how to revive those youthful curls, it’s essential to consider the broader implications of hair care trends and products. As brands increasingly cater to diverse hair types, the market is flooded with options ranging from specialized curl enhancers to moisture-rich treatments. However, the challenge remains: how do we select what truly works without falling into the marketing traps of "miracle" products? This dilemma calls for a critical eye and an understanding of one’s hair needs. The community aspect of platforms like Reddit becomes invaluable here, where shared experiences and tips can lead to genuine breakthroughs for individuals struggling with similar issues.
Ultimately, the journey of hair and identity is ongoing, and the quest for curls—or any desired style—doesn’t have to be a solitary one. As we explore the intersection of beauty, self-expression, and practicality, it prompts the question: how do we continue to empower each other in embracing our hair journeys, while also encouraging innovation in the beauty industry? As the author reflects on their hair story, it invites us all to consider our own paths towards embracing our unique beauty, imperfections and all.
| First picture is my hair now, after a normal blow dry. Second was last october (I think) and that's about what I usually get with tons of product. Last picture was me as a child. So, I really hate my hair. It's stupidly thick and a lot (although right now it's falling out like crazy because of allergies), to the point where the hairdresser wanted us to pay more just because it was so much more than most people have. My friend cuts it now so that's not a worry for me anymore. However, I really want my curls back. Look at my baby picture, such cute little curls! They went away as I got older because nobody took proper care of my hair and so they eventually turned to waves, and since I grew it out to my hips and still didn't care for it I had a bird's nest on my head to the point we had to cut it all and I walked around with a Karen cut for a while. With 15 I got sick of all that hair and cut it short short. Since then I barely have any structure. It used to still be a bit wavy but now I don't even get that anymore. Even if I don't dye or bleach. So to not walk around with flat, structureless hair, I spend about 45 minutes carefully styling it. I use curl shampoo, multiple conditioners and then gel and blow dry with a diffuser. That's becoming too much work for me though, and after two hours it's already back to almost nothing. I've been told my hair does have structure but is too heavy to hold anything. Besides getting a perm, is there anything I can do to get those curls back? If not, how could I style that cut with as little effort as possible so it doesn't look that flat? I like this haircut and I don't really want to go back to default little boy cut just to have some volume until it's too long again :( [link] [comments] |

- I really need some helpOkay so, ive always had issues with my hair. My mom has really pretty tight curls and is causcasian. My sperm donor is half Sioux and has coarser hair. Me? Curls for days and I mean DAYS. Its pretty standard, frizzes when it gets too hot...or cold...or muggy...or rainy..ect. I have a lot of hair, but apparently its thin stranded, can anyone explain that? Its pretty manageable, EXCEPT for this one patch on the crown of my head that is very coarse and frizzy and no amount of leave in or deep conditioning really changes it. My curls are also tighter on top and then underneath they're looser. And then theres the baby hairs. EVERYWHERE. My temples are where they are REALLY irritating because they dont pull back and I have to tuck them behind my ears or under my glasses or else I look like ive been electrocuted (See picture below) They dont behave, stay down or even stay curled. They just exist in the most annoying way possible. I used to shave them off for my own sanity but im really trying to grow my hair out and leave it alone BUT THESE TRUCKERS WON'T GROW FOR SHIT! Anyway. I know everyone has different hair, but does anyone have any tips to how to manage it? I use Tressemé shampoo and conditioner (please dont come after me, it works wonders on my hair compared to other products Ive tried), Mielle leave in and will use Aussie if I have it. Aussie and Tressemé have always done wonders for me. Except for the devil horns. (Also see picture below) I really just need some good tips and tricks to use so that when I braid my hair or put it back i dont look like ive escaped a grippy sock vacation( taken three of those again dont come after me) Pictures for reference. submitted by /u/LittleMiss1794 [link] [comments]
- Hair HelpHi everyone. My hair is down to the middle of my back now and kind of thick. I absolutely hate it. If I could shave it off, I would. Then I wouldn't have to worry about it. Since I can't do that...I need some help. I wear it up every day because I don't have time to style it in the morning. Washing it, blow drying it, and straightening it (get rid of the volume) would take almost an hour. I also don't want to style it and then go to bed because when I wake up, it wouldn't be the same. I would have to style it again. I also thought cutting it shorter (right above my shoulders) to see if that would help. Cutting it any shorter wouldn't really work for my hair type and thickness. Any tips or suggestions for this? How long is your hair and what do you do to style it? I hate my hair and need some ideas. Thanks! submitted by /u/musicmeg0222 [link] [comments]
- Idk how to style my hairHi everyone, This is what my haircare looks like after hairwash. I have tried using leave in conditioners, serums, hair masks etc but my hair is too thick and it frizzes up easily. I tried using the blow dry brush from mane but i ended up gettig crazy split ends from using it. And yes I did use heat protectant. I want to get a haircut but I dont know what style of haircut would suit my hair. I want to keep my length but maybe make it more stylish? Last time i got layers but the stylist said it wont look that good since I have thick heavy hair. I am so confused. Please any advice would be appreciated! - Advice on hair styling and routine?I’m 34 and have been insecure about my hair since mid-20s because I used to have more of it (more or thicker I don’t know). I have naturally wavy hair and it looks nice on shampoo day, but as from the next day the volume disappears, curls flatten and I have no volume. It’s hard for me to be objective so I would like outside opinions to know if I’m being too obsessive about the way my hair looks and if there are ways it could be improved: - does my hair look “problematic” to you in some way? Ie: Too thin, dry - what cut would you recommend? I think a bob cut looks best but I’m trying to let it grow, would love long hair again. - any recommendations on styling/routine are very welcome My current routine: - shampoo twice a week using Furterer Curbicia (2 rounds and leave in 3 min during 2nd round) - hair mask once a week using Furterer “sublime karité hydrating mask” - I always air dry and crunch my hair with Furterer “sublime curl” styling cream FYI : - I had a hair diagnosis done in a hair institute: said my hair is oily at the roots and dry on the lengths, and a bit fine. - I’ve been taking iron and hair/nail supplements for the last 3 years, I don’t know if my ferritine levels could be part of the problem (currently 47ng/ml) Feel free to ask any questions or redirect me to a better subreddit.
